Gambling Addiction Services

The gambling industry has grown tenfold since 1975. The Gambling Initiative Program was established in 1999. From the beginning the Way Back Inn has offered a program sponsored by the State of Illinois, Department of Human Services/Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse.

Compulsive Gambling Program

  • Compulsive gambling affects 5% of Americans.
  • The gambling industry has grown tenfold since 1975.
  • 15 million people display some sign of gambling addiction.
  • “Players” with household incomes under $10,000 bet nearly three times as much on lotteries as those with
    incomes over $50,000.
  • The average rate of divorce for problem gamblers is nearly 200% greater that of non-gamblers.
  • The suicide rate for pathological gamblers is twenty times higher than for non-gamblers
    (one in five attempt suicide.)
  • 65% of pathological gamblers commit crimes to support their gambling habit.

Individual sessions can be scheduled between the client and their counselor.

Family Group

A family education and therapy group is held weekly. Family members are invited to participate regularly to better understand the disease of addiction.
