Partial Hospitalization Program
The Way Back Inn and Grateful House has a partnership with Hines Veterans Hospital to provide alcohol, drug, and compulsive gambling treatment programs to veterans. Programs are held at the Hines VA Hospital and the Way Back Inn and Grateful House.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Weekly treatment program
Monday to Saturday
Group therapy sessions—20 hours per week
Individual therapy sessions as needed.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

A family education & therapy group is held weekly. Family members are invited to participate to better understand the disease of addiction and offer support to each other.

12 Step Meetings
All clients are encouraged to attend weekly 12-step meetings:
- Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
- Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
- Gamblers Anonymous (GA)
Family members are also encouraged to attend 12-step meetings:
- Family Anonymous (FA)
A relapse prevention specialist facilitates a weekly aftercare group. The group provides an opportunity to further explore problem solving, relationships challenges, and a sober lifestyle. Individual outpatient counseling is also available.
Clients enrolled in the partial hospitalization program (PHP) can choose to live in one of The Way Back Inn residences located in Chicago, Forest Park, Oak Park, or Melrose Park
The Way Back Inn and Grateful House are committed to developing an individual treatment plan for every client.
The Way Back Inn and Grateful House utilize motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and the cycle of change into its individualized treatment plan, per the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). All therapeutic interventions, groups, and education utilize evidence based best practices.

The Way Back Inn and Grateful House’s staff have advanced degrees in mental health and addictions counseling. The staff is registered in continuing education programs throughout the year, insuring that best practices are provided to all clients.
